With already a month into Holton’s 4 and 1/2 month cruise ship tour through the South Pacific, he received some exciting news that two of his singles from his most recent album "Jar of Sunshine" have been selected into the Semi-Finalist round of the International Songwriters Competition.

The International Songwriting Competition is the worlds biggest song writing competition that will have a total of 68 winners and reward winners with over $150,000 in cash and prizes. Holton’s two singles titled, “Weight of the World” and “Yes She Does” have both been selected out of over 18,000 compositions making the top 10%.

“It’s competitions like this that really do help you further your career,” Holton said. “These songs have been getting into the hans of new people almost every day since the release in Los Angeles and I’m thrilled they continue to be heard by more and more people each and everyday. Competitions like this help artists like myself to really share our message and original music. It’s pretty special to be announced as a Semi-Finalist regardless of the outcome.

This isn’t the first time Holton’s songs have been recognized. “Weight of the World” has had several acclamations including making the Folk/Singer-Songwriter Top 13 in the Unsigned Only competition last year which had submissions from over 100 different countries and over 7000 composition to choose from. “Yes She Does” was selected in Los Angeles as the Song of the Month with Songwriter Universe.

With Holton being selected as Semi Finalist in this years International Songwriter Competition, his songs have the chance to be heard by celebrity judges such as Bill Withers, Lorde, Boyz II Men, Kesha and several major record label representatives. Holton is happy his songs have been selected and is hoping it turns some heads.

“We as artists write and perform music because we love it. The goal here is always to make a career at what you do best and what you ultimately love to do. I hope more opportunities like this surface so I can keep pushing hard to make this dream a reality. If anyone out there has opportunity, I’m ready.”
